This album was clearly kept by a lady at Panshanger, the identity of whom may be inferred from the frequent occurrence of certain names, particularly "Ashley." It is suggested that the owner of the volume was Lady Ashley, wife of Anthony Ashley-Cooper, Lord Ashley, who in 1851 succeeded his father as 7th Earl of Shaftesbury. This Lady Ashley was Lady Emily Caroline Catherine Frances Cowper, daughter of the 5th Earl Cowper of Panshanger
