The first meeting of the Home Committee was held at Church House, Westminster, on the 27 June 1972 under the Chairmanship of the Bishop of Warrington, Rt. Rev. John Bickersteth. The functions of the Home Committee as at 1977: 1. To stimulate responsibility in diocese and parish for the mission and unity of the Church at home and overseas. 2. To communicate through appropriate means, to diocese and parish the interests of the General Synod and other Anglican and Ecumenical Bodies concerned with mission and unity. 3. To keep BMU informed of present and future need and opportunities of diocese and parish in connection with mission and unity of the Church 4. To promote Church of England participation in ecumenical work. 5. To be responsible for the detailed planning of the Annual Consultation of the Board. The Committee normally met 4 times per year, with one meeting being residential. In 1991 the committee was sucseeded by the Evangelism and Renewal Committee of the Board of Mission and a Unity at Home committee of the Council for Christian Unity.
