Administrative / biographical background

Thetford Union was formed by the Poor Law Commissioners in 1835 and the union workhouse was built the following year in St. Mary's parish, Thetford.

Thetford Union Board of Guardians was replaced by Guardians Committee No. 11 in 1930.
