Administrative / biographical background

These records were an anonymous gift extracted from papers left for disposal in Shire Hall. The documents were given to Mr P Bloomfield, the Deputy County Archivist, by the Shire Hall Custodians. In 1938 the title of the service was the Women's Voluntary Service in civil defence. This was altered after the Second World War when the organization received royal recognition and became the Women's Royal Voluntary Service.

Mrs J Taylor is the county organizer of the WRVS
