Description (What the record is about)
-
Survey volume EE2 is the second in the series of five 'EE' volumes, which covers the Ecclesiastical Corporations of the Royal Peculiar of Windsor, which were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners under mid nineteenth century parliamentary legislation. ; This volume covers the surveys carried out on behalf of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners by their appointed land agents, Messrs. Smith & Watkins, Messrs. Cluttons and Messrs. Smiths & Gore. The preferments in this volume concern the Windsor Chapter Estates, which were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on the 29 September 1866 (effective date), which was published in the London Gazette on 28 June 1867 by Order in Council. ; These surveys were essential to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, as the survey reports gave a comprehensive way of clearly ascertaining the extent, condition and value of the preferments being commuted.; As preferments were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners from the Ecclesiastical Corporations, the various holdings of the estates were either kept or sold; the land agents supplied recommendatory advice on this matter with the survey reports.; The volume also has added annotations often regarding the disposal of property or land since the surveys were originally carried out and therefore incorporate later dates.; The geographical areas covered within the volume includes: the county of Devonshire, parishes of Bradninch, Northam, South Molton, Ottery St. Mary, South Tawton and Throwleigh; the county of Oxfordshire, parishes of Pyrton, Waltington and Shiplake; the county of Yorkshire, parishes of Ellerburn, Thornton and Pickering; the county of Staffordshire, parishes of Ulloxeter and Kingstone; the county of Buckinghamshire, parish of Turville; the county of Warwickshire, parish of Anstey; the county of Cambridgeshire, parish of Whaddon; the county of Essex, parish of Dagenham; the county of Cornwall, St. Stephens by Saltash; the county of Carmathan, parishes of Aberwilly, Llanllawdog and Llanpimpsaint; the county of Wiltshire, parish of Allcannings; the county of Berkshire, parishes of Kinbury, Old Windsor and West Ilsley; and the counties of Berkshire and Wiltshire, parish of Hungerford.
