Administrative / biographical background

Formed in 1921 from the Amalgamated Society and the General Union of Carpenters and Joiners. In 1970 the Amalgamated Society of Painters and Decorators transferred engagements to the ASW to form the Amalgamated Society of Woodworkers and Painters. Later in the same year this Society was joined by the Association of Building Technicians. In 1971 the ASWP joined the Amalgamated Union of Building Trade Workers to form UCATT.
