Title
Papers of Hodgkiss family of Hawthorne Dene, Baslow
Date
late 18th cent. -1971
Description

Alfred Hodgkiss, a quarry manager, died in 1943. These papers refer to various of his children including Joseph Arthur Hodgkiss (c1894-1917) who died on active service in October 1917 and Misses E G [Gladys] and A M [Mabel] Hodgkiss who lived together in Hawthorne Dene until their deaths in the mid-1970s. Another sister married a Mr Bunting who owned property in Dronfield and Coal Aston. Earlier 19th century papers in this collection, particularly associated with the Bower and Baggalley families of Whittington and Dronfield, probably came into the Hodgkiss family through this connection.
