Administrative / biographical background

Ionic Lodge was granted a warrant by the Antients' Grand Lodge to meet as No. 312B on 25 April 1810 and named in 1825. In 1810 the Lodge met at the Fortune of War, Thomas Street, Woolwich, London. After the Union between the Antients' and Moderns' Grand Lodges to form the United Grand Lodge of England in 1813, the Lodge was renumbered to meet as No. 397. In 1825 the Lodge left London and moved to the White Swan, The Village, Old Charlton, Kent. In 1832 the Lodge was renumbered as No. 275. In 1835 the Lodge returned to London, meeting at the George and Vulture Tavern, Cornhill. Since 1864 the Lodge has met as No. 227. The Lodge now meets at the Royal Bedford Hotel, Bedford Way, Russell Square, London.
