Major Harry Witty, aged 22, the only son
of Mr and Mrs Basil Witty, of 34, Middleton-
street, Hull, holds the unique distinction of
being the youngest major in the Machine Gun
Corps. He joined the R.A.M.C. in January,
1915, obtained a commission, and was gazetted
to the Durham Light Infantry in September,
1915. In March, 1916, he was transferred to
the Machine Gun Corps, and went to France
in September, 1916. In April, 1917, ho was pro-
moted lieutenant, captain in March, 1918, and
major in October, 1918. Previous to joining he
was a booker at the Selby Warehousing Trans-
