Diaries and account books of John Edward Sandars of Gainsborough, 1826-90. John Edward's grandfather set up as a maltster in Gainsborough in the late 18th century, and his grandson took over the business in 1852. See Archivist's Report 16, pp 20-21, for a fuller description of John Edward's career. He married Eliza, widow of Captain Dunn, in May 1857. The diaries are of the "appointment" type, and contain few personal observations. Details of weather are given most days.
