Texas blues research

This sub-series consists of a series of tapes grouped by Oliver under the label 'Texas blues research', which had its genesis in a project he was working on with the American folklorist Mack McCormick from c1959 onwards (for more information on which, see Alan Govenar's introduction to The Blues Come to Texas, 2019). Oliver labelled most of these tapes with the prefix 'T' to distinguish them from the more geographically miscellaneous 'B' series (see POAAAM/3/1/3). Although the first few 'T' series tapes (1-5) seem to have been compiled by McCormick, after that point a separate 'MM' series was created for further tapes from him (see POAAAM/3/1/5); the remainder of the 'T' tapes are compilations apparently sent to him by various collectors.

Note that despite the Texas label, many of the 'T' tapes contain music with no obvious Texas connection; conversely, tapes with a Texas (or in one case Louisiana) theme but no assigned 'T' number have been added to the end of this sub-series.
