Description (What the record is about)

The case books are arranged in chronological order by date of discharge. The same case numbers are used as in the registers of confinements. These consist of a letter which indicates the year starting with A in 1928 and recommencing with A in 1953 followed by a number allocated in order of discharge. The case books contain the antenatal record, the labour record, the lying-in report, and a report on the condition of both mother and child at discharge. Only a sample of the case books dating from 1945 to 1958 has been retained. This comprises volumes for the years 1953 and 1958 (with gaps) and three volumes (all that survived) for 1945 and 1948.
