Description

Copy of proceedings of the Committee of the House of Commons on the Chester election, 24th February, 1819, concerning bribery at the parliamentary election of June, 1817, at which Lord Belgrave and General Grosvenor were elected. The losing candidates, Sir John Grey Egerton and Mr. Williams, petitioned the House of Commons, as did several of the freemen, complaining of an undue election. Includes information about public houses. 50ff
