Administrative / biographical background

Moreton-in-Marsh Cottage Hospital was opened in 1873 at the suggestion of Dr. Leonard Yelf and with the support of Lord Redesdale. It was housed in a purpose-built building, to which extensions were made in 1882, 1908 and 1935. The hospital was financed by voluntary contributions until taken over by the National Health Service in 1948, and is still in use [1980].
