Administrative / biographical background

William Knatt was initiated, passed and raised in this Lodge in 1792 at Fort William, Calcutta and remained a subscribing member until 1795. He served in the East India Company's service for ten years but was then impressed into the Royal Navy for seven years. On his recent return to England, Knatt was discharged as unfit for service, as he had lost completely the use of one side of his body. Without a government pension or access to other relief, he is in extreme distress and is granted three Guineas by the Stewards' Lodge of the Antients' Grand Lodge.
