Description (What the record is about)
-
Soft covered photograph album measuring 260 x 330 mm with protective stitched cloth cover and bookplate of Harold Wilberforce-Bell in inside front cover. The small snapshots are mounted several to a page, with captions in Wilberforce-Bell's hand written on slips of paper pasted to facing page. The album covers all facets of Wilberforce-Bell's social and professional life in India during the relevant period, as well as holidays, etc., in other locations. The general photographic quality is not high, although the album contains some evocative social material, and the prints have not been individually listed. Most of the Indian material is covered by better-quality material in other albums in the collection. The following list records the majority of groups of photographs of Indian relevance: hunting and social groups at Palampur 1914 (prints 1-4), Gurkha parade ground and training scenes at Dharmshala 1916 (21-38), scenes at Chamba 1925 (84-5, 90-101), Dewas 1926 (106-7), Mandu 1925 (111-4), Kolhapur 1932-33, including scenes at the races (138-89), inspecting troops at Jamkhandi 1933 (190-5), official visit to Bhor 1933 (196-204), Kolhapur 1933, including groups taken after cheetah hunt (205-12, 218-27), official visit to Sawantwadi 1934 (228-34), Kolhapur 1934 (238-49), visit to engineering works on weir over the Sutlej at Panjnad 1935 (252-61), official visit to Nabha 1934 (269-76), scenes at Lahore 1935 (277-83), Jubilee Day celebrations, Nabha 1935 (288-94).
