Administrative / biographical background

St. Nicholas' Lodge was established in 1764 as No. 317 and met at the Three Crowns, Harwich, Essex. By 1768 it was meeting at the Half Moon, St. Austin's Lane, Harwich and by 1771 it met at The Globe, King's Quay Street, Harwich, Essex. In 1770 it was re-numbered as Lodge No. 257, in 1780 as No. 204 and in 1781 as No. 205. In 1783 the lodge was erased but it was reinstated in 1784 and named St. Nicholas' Lodge. After 1784 the lodge met at The Swan, Stones Green, Great Oakley, Harwich and the meetings remained there until 1795 when the lodge was erased, by which date the Lodge met as No. 174.
