Administrative / biographical background

St. Mary and St. Ambrose Church on Pershore Road, Edgbaston originated as a mission of St. Bartholomew, Edgbaston, and was first licensed in 1885. From 1889 it was known as St. Ambrose's mission church. In 1898 it was consecrated as the Church of St. Mary and St. Ambrose. A parish was assigned out of St. Bartholomew's in 1903 when a vicarage was created in the gift of Lord Calthorpe and his heirs. In 1955 the parish of St. Thomas in the Moors Balsall Heath was united with that of St. Mary and St. Ambrose
