Annual returns giving names, professions and residence of members of the Newtonia Lodge [Moderns] and general correspondence relating to the running of the lodge. Years 1792 - 1794, 1797 - 1800, 1806, 1807 and 1809 are not extant.

Administrative / biographical background

Newtonian Lodge was granted a warrant by the Moderns' Grand Lodge to meet as No. 499 on 22 January 1785. The Lodge met at the Elephant and Castle Inn, High Street, Knaresborough, Yorkshire. The Lodge was renumbered as No. 408 in 1792, as No. 490 in 1814 a year after the union between the Moderns' and the Antients' Grand Lodges to form the United Grand Lodge of England and as No. 323 in 1832. The lodge was erased on 3 December 1851.
