This committee was appointed by the Council on 9 May 1851 under the Common Lodging Houses Act of 1851. The first meeting of this committee was held on 23 May 1851 and the minutes to 19 Nov. 1858 are contained in the Special Committees minute book, CCB/35, after which they were recorded separately.
Under the Public Health Act of 1872, by which the Corporation became an Urban Sanitary Authority, on the recommendation of the Sanitary Committee the functions of the Common Lodging Houses Committee were transferred to the new Public Health Committee
