Ms journal in 3 volumes (219 pp total) written between 1941 and 1945 and describing in retrospect his experiences while serving as a Gunner in the 67th Medium Regiment, Royal Artillery, July 1941-May 1945. Martin served in North Africa from October 1941 until his capture at the fall of Tobruk on 21 June 1942, following which he was imprisoned in various camps in North Africa (June-November 1942), in camps in Italy (PG 68, November-December 1942; PG 73, November 1942-September 1943) and in Germany (Stalag IVB September 1943-April 1945), worked to clear up after Allied air raids in Dresden (January-February 1945) and took part in the forced march to Czechoslovakia (April 1945).
