45639 Pte Jones gave written evidence about his death on date 16/11/1916 - "I saw him killed outright. He was caught by a piece of shrapnel and the Germans finished him with the bayonet. It was on the 15th October - a Sunday. We were taking German trenches againsy Guedecourt. He was standing on the parados of the German trench and when he was wounded he fell into the trench and was bayonetted. We were driven out."The Times 17/7/1917: Lieut OJT Runge MC, was born in 1890, educated at Dulwich College, The New Beacon at Sevenoaks, and Charterhouse. He studied Engineering at the City & Guilds School, South Kensington where he obtained a diploma, and gained practical experience in the works of Messrs Fraser, Chalmers of Erith. During this period he was a member of the Univ of London OTC. When war broke out he was in Canada with the Canadain Pacific Railways, Montreal. He at once returned home and obtained a commission in the 15th Middx Regt. Later, he was attached to the Queen's Westminster Rifles and subsequently to the MGC. In June 1916 he was awarded the Military Cross and on Oct 15th was reported wounded and missing at Guedecourt. He is now officially presumed to have been killed on that date.
