Administrative / biographical background

The Appledore Church traces its history back to the ejection of Rev. Anthony Down from Northam Parish Church in 1662. The Protestant dissenters of Appledore built their own chapel in 1699. This chapel was replaced by a new meeting house in 1816 which was extensively restored in 1898.

The Torridge Group of United Reformed Churches - Bideford; Torrington; Northam and Appledore - was formed in 1973.
