As well as providing a meticulous photographic record of streetscapes around the borough, Trace’s work frequently documented industrial, commercial and public buildings and included interior views of public houses and churches. In 1987 he undertook a very detailed survey of the Lambeth Hospital site and buildings.
His photography also captured many areas of the borough that were then under immediate threat of demolition and development and so provides a good record of many of the streets and houses that would be cleared in the 1970s and 1980s in what was to be the final phase of council house building by Lambeth’s Development Directorate under the direction of Edward Hollamby.

- Michael David Trace(1937 – 2006) was a commercial photographer and also a painter and sculptor. He began working for Lambeth Archives in the late 1960s, initially providing copy photographic services for the archives and for customers. In 1971 he was commissioned by Lambeth Archives to undertake an ongoing photographic survey of the streets and buildings of Lambeth that would last for16 years until 1987.
