Edward Beadon White was born on 12 December 1879 in St Paul’ Bristol. On 8 June 1912 he married Jeannie Laurie Whyte(b 2/7/1883) at Blytheswood Registration Office, 207 West George St, Glasgow. They had one daughter Mina Young White who was born on 6 February 1916 at 21 Langside Rd, Newlands, Glasgow. Edward had a long association with the military receiving the Territorial Force Efficiency Medal (2/12/1912). He originally attested as No 554 with the North Somerset Yeomanry on 14 January 1902 and rose steadily to the rank of RQMS to which he was appointed in January 1915. In 1908 Edward gave his address as the Ship Inn, Deanery Rd, Bristol. On 13 April 1915 he applied for a commission and his application reveals that since January 1899 he had been a surveyor for the Customs and Excise, he was 5' 6" tall with a fresh complexion, hazel eyes and his family were living at 11 Boyton Ave, Cathcart, Glasgow. He was posted for officer training in Tynemouth on 1 October 1915 and commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in 11 (Reserve) Battalion Yorkshire Regt on 4 February 1916. He was subsequently transferred to 92 Coy Machine Gun Corps and embarked for France from Southampton on 16 May 1916. He was reported to have died from wounds on 1 July 1916 and originally buried about 2000 yards south of Hebuterne and north of Albert. He is now buried in Euston Road Cemetery, Colincamps, Plot V. Row G. Grave 7. After the death of her husband Jeannie White moved with her baby daughter into the home of her parents Mr and Mrs John L Whyte at ‘Ravarnette’, 42 Newlands Rd., Newlands, Glasgow. Edward White left £860 13s 1d to his wife. Authorities made grant (gratuity) of £100 and pension of £100 pa to Mrs White and £33.6.8d with £24 pa in respect of her daughter. (Officers Papers - PRO)
