Charges or preliminary speeches made to the Grand Jury by the Chairman of Sessions. Justices often ordered these to be printed for sale. Very few have survived amongst the sessions records, but a few have been acquired from private sources. A number of charges are preserved in the British Museum. Charges were not recorded in the official manuscript sessions books or registers:
