True Friendship, Lodge of, No. 218, Stapleton

Annual returns giving names of the members of the Lodge of True Friendship [Antients] and general correspondence relating to the running of the lodge. Years 1802 - 1808 are not extant.

Lodge of True Friendship was granted a warrant by the Antients' Grand Lodge on 27 December 1797 to meet as No. 315 (B). From 1797 the Lodge was also known as No.1 Lodge of Bengal and in 1818 it became the third Lodge of Bengal. In 1797 the Lodge met at an unknown location in Calcutta, Bengal, India. Details of its meeting location remains unknown until 1862, when the Lodge met at Freemason's Hall, 55 Bentinck Street, Calcutta. In 1830 the Lodge united with Aurora Lodge, No. 816 which also met in Calcutta. In 1970 after several members returned to England, it was decided to relocate the Lodge from Calcutta to Gloucestershire?. The Lodge's last meeting in Calcutta was held in 1971 and henceforward the Lodge met at Downend Temple, Gloucestershire?, England. The Lodge now meets at the Masonic Hall, Park Road, Stapleton, Gloucestershire?.
