Administrative / biographical background

The lodge was established in 1779 but was never named. The lodge met at the Square and Compasses, Workington, Cumbria. From correspondence between the lodge and the Grand Secretary it appears that Brother Harvey, who was named on the warrant, moved from Workington to Herrington [or Herrington Harbour] in c.1792. As he was the only member left he took the warrant with him and the lodge started working there. We do not know the exact date when this lodge lapsed, it appears in the list of lodges in 1794 and 1800 but by 1802 their warrant had been given to a new lodge in Plymouth Docks [now Devonport], Devon.
