Independent crank engine, with 34½ inch cylinder. Alteration of existing engine.Coloured original and coloured reverse plan and section of air pump and condenser (also a second uncoded coloured original drawing); coloured original and coloured reverse plan and external elevation of cylinder, cistern, air pump and condenser; coloured reverse external side view of cylinder, nozzles, condenser etc.; "Memorandum for Alteration of the British Plate Glass Co.'s 30 horse engine to 40 horses", Sep. 1843; press copy sketch of the cylinder bottom, sketch of air pump rod with note by William S. Garland; undated drawing of fly wheel by J. Haslam.

For the British Plate Glass Co., Ravenhead, near Prescot. This was an alteration of a 30 horse power independent engine with a 31 inch cylinder and 3 foot stroke, made by Nasmyth. Boulton Watt & Co. fitted a 45 horse power cylinder (34½ inch) and a 45 horse size power air pump and condenser. The alteration was just before Boulton Watt & Co. supplied a 38 horse power independent engine, which was erected alongside this one [see Portfolio 5/838].
