Correspondence files created by the Town Clerk's Office in the course of the work of the Waterworks Committee of the Bath City Council. These files are predominantly relating to high level decision making for the City Waterworks, for documents relating to the operational, technical, design, construction and maintenance of the City Waterworks please see BC/7/1/13 - Records of the Bath City Council Waterworks Office.
These correspondence files cover a wide range of subjects relating to the waterworks including: The Bath corporation water Act 1903; Charlcombe Waterworks; extensions of the City's supplies; the takeover of the Combe Down (Bath) and General Waterworks Co. Ltd.; the Batheaston reservoirs; compensation payments in regards to accidents; protection of the springs in St. Catherine's Valley and other locations; tenancies of waterworks lands and farms; regional organisation of waterworks undertakings; supply of water to rural villages; Air Ministry use of waterworks land for War-time purposes; agreements regarding supplies of water for new housing developments; supplies of water for fire-fighting purposes; outbreaks of disease; improvements to the system of supply including arrangement of bulk supply with other undertakings in times of water shortage; purchase of lands for the exploitation or protection of springs; introduction of water sterilisation; and re-organisation of water undertakings in the 1970s.Old Filing No.:
