Letter from Robert [Dudley], Earl of Leicester, Leicester House, to William Howard, Sir Thomas Browne and Sir William More, deputy lieutenants of Surrey. The Queen has written to the Lord Lieutenant ordering the levying of certain men in the county, to be placed under a captain of Leicester's choosing. He has appointed his nephew, Sir Robert Sidney, as captain of the Surrey men and urges that 'able men' be selected for the Queen's service. [HMC p.643b]
