Correspondence of George S. S. Jerningham Diplomatic business and personal affairs. Correspondents include Lord Palmerston (signature only), Stratford Canning, A. G. Stapleton, Earl of Clarendon, Foreign Office officials.

Subject matter includes : (D641/3b) extract of 35th protocol of German Diet, 1833; (D641/5) his appointment to Lisbon Legation, 1837; (D641/15) suspicions that diplomatic mail is being opened in Paris Post Office, 1852; (D641/19) situation in Mexico, 1853; (D641/20) his proposed appointment to Rio de Janeiro, 1853; proposed exchange of Stuttgart and Stockholm diplomatic posts with (D641/23) description of life in Stuttgart, 1854; (D641/36) description of society at the Hague, 1858; (D641/44) style of life in Stockholm, 1859; (D641/47) possibility of war between France and Prussia, 1868. Also (D641/68) statement of public salaries in various European embassies as increased since July 1855.
