Gallantry Notes: Citation for MM from the Tank Corps Book of Honour, Battle of Arras, April 1917 " For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. After the action on April 9th 1917 this NCO was left in charge of two tanks. When one of them was set on fire by a direct hit from hostile artillery, he displayed the greatest pluck in entering the burning tank, which contained petrol and ammunition, and saving much valuable equipment. He afterwards drove away the other tank into a place of safety, under heavy artillery fire, thereby showing great devotion to duty and initiative";
