Administrative / biographical background

An ancient parish church, originally serving the townships of Ashton, Bruen Stapleford, Burton [nr. Tarvin], Clotton Hoofield, Duddon, Foulk Stapleford, Hockenhull, Horton cum Peel, Kelsall, Mouldsworth and Tarvin. In 1964 the parish was extended to include Prior's Heys (formerly extra-parochial).

St. Peter's, Duddon, opened in 1835 as a chapel of ease to Tarvin.
