Description

These are the papers of Walter Prideaux and Son, solicitors, on behalf of their client the Revd Augustus Frederick Phipps (1809-1896), fourth son of Henry Phipps, Earl of Mulgrave, who in 1837 married Mary Elizabeth Emily, daughter of William Henry Fitzroy, Duke of Grafton. In November 1873 Phipps purchased the leasehold interest in 21 Queen Adelaide Crescent, Hove, for £1800, including the contents. In 1886, in return for an insurance policy on his life, he secured £2818 from the trustees of his marriage settlement to pay of a debt incurred for the purchase of a house in Eaton Square, London, from his nephew the Earl of Mulgrave.
