Eldest son of the Rev Fred Bolton, Vicar of St Georges, Darwen, by his wife, Jane, d. of Robert Weeks of Dolton, N.Devon. Born Darwen 17/12/1894, educ at Hutton Sch, Preston and Brasenose College, Oxford. Where he was reading for his final in Theological Hons and hopedto have taken his degree in1916 and was a member of the College OTC. Obt a commsn in July 1915, served w. BEF in F&F from 3/6/1916 and died in 42 CCS 3/5/1917 of wounds received at Fampoux, e. of Arras. Buried at Aubigny, w. of Arras. Unmarried.;

Other Notes: BOLTON, Lieutenant, HERBERT FREDERICK, 10th Bn. South Lancashire Regiment attd. 103rd Coy. Machine Gun Corps. Died of wounds 3rd May 1917. Age 22. Son of Fred and Jane Bolton, of St. George's Vicarage, Darwen, Lancs. VI. E. 11. Aubigny Communal Cemetery Extension - Pas De Calais, France.;
