Description

Folio 28. Letter from Charles Wright, Clerk to the Mitford and Launditch Rural Sanitary Authority, to the Local Government Board, acknowledging receipt of their letter dated 27 January 1875 enclosing a copy of a memorial from some rate payers in Dereham. Following the document being brought before the committee he is directed to state that the sanitary authority is following to the best of its ability the method indicated by the Board as regards to the intended drainage and water supply and also that following inquiries it is their opinion that the proposed measures for drainage and water supply are absolutely necessary. As soon as the engineer's plans, sections and estimates are ready for the inspection by the Board a petition for a provisional order will be forward to them.
Annotated: 'Reserve for the further correspondence referred to in the last paragraph of this letter', 9 February 1875.
Annotated: 'Mr Lambert, whenever the inquiry is held, I should be glad if the question of dry earth or water closets receives attention. The size of the [farm] of East Dereham with no other water supply than that to be obtained from wells, seems to afford a favourable opportunity for the [trial] of the dry earth system', 10 February 1875.
