The following records were transferred to the Library as Diocesan Record Office in September 1982 by Rev. R. M. Freeman.

Administrative / biographical background

Christ Church was built in 1838 and a District assigned by Bishop's Instrument, 7 April 1840. Part of this was transferred to St. John's, Shuttleworth by Order in Council, 8 August 1845 (London Gazette, 24 August) and part to St. John's, Bircle by Order in Council, 15 April 1848 (London Gazette, 28 April). In 1958 the boundaries of the parish were again altered by the transfer of some of it to St. John's, Bury, by Order in Council, 7 May, (London Gazette, 13 May).
