Ref: 4366SR/2. Recent fatigue cracking of Proteus III fir stress disc lobes, resulting in one case in complete fracture of the lobes and consequent destruction of the compressor, indicate that the fillet stresses in the disc lobes are too high to give extended disc life. Calculations of these fillet stresses is complicated by the presence of interminate vibration loads, the value of which can only be properly obtained by running experience
