Gallantry Notes: Original Citation for MID: "For very gallant conduct near Festubert from 9-16 April 1918. During the enemy attack on 9th April he was in Route E keep and after his guns had been knocked out and the keep surrounded he cleverly handled his section and fought his way back to our lines. From 10-16th April he was in Cailloux Keep where his untiring energy and cheerfulness at all times were instrumental in keeping his men in good fighting spirit during this trying period".
