Description (What the record is about)

Captain Isherwood produced 6,316 maritime drawings between the early 1930s and 1989, all to the scale of one inch to a hundred feet. After the Second World War, Captain Isherwood became a lecturer at the School of Navigation, Warsash, retiring in 1972. In 1949, his series of articles 'Steamers of the Past' began to appear in the magazine 'Sea Breezes', combining drawings of vessels with research on their life stories.
