Armstrong Siddeley Motors: Minutes of a meeting to review the Python position

Development position: 143 hours running have been carried out during the period, making a total of 10,925 hours P.117: This engine has continued with the twin disc cooling investigations which have now been completed P.105: This engine has been used for visual tip clearance tests and suffered a second row turbine blade failure P.146: This engine was returned from Rotols with a total running time of 145 hours on ICU development. The main trouble was some cracked turbine manifold feed pipes and a loose turbine feed pipe clamp rings. Manifold feed pipes (on the combustion chamber) had failed due to overheating P.103: This engine has carried out a 25-hour test with combustion chamber modifications as follows: (a) Strengthened baffle plates (b) Cups in mixing chambers (c) Extra cooling to flame tube The chambers were in good condition at the end of the run.
