Description (What the record is about)
-
St Augustine's was built as a mission church of St Barnabas, Bexhill, in 1933 and consecrated on 29 Apr 1934. An order in council of 29 Jun 1934 constituted the area previously known as the West Bexhill conventional district as the consolidated chapelry of St Augustine, Bexhill. The church of St Andrew in Wickham Road, originally built as a mission church of St Barnabas, became a daughter church of St Augustine at this date. In 1950 the conventional district of St Andrew was formed. For a detailed history of St Augustine's church see PAR243/7/1/1 below.
