Salt Duty

James Jenkin, master, and John Harris, mate of sloop 'Nautilus' of Swansea, stated on oath that on 21 Jan. last they shipped at Liverpool 960 bushels of British Salt, to carry it to Truro on account of Joseph Carne. They sailed on 28 Feb. and on voyage ran into a storm, losing 150 bushels of salt: Collector of Excise to make allowance for duty paid.

David Jones, master, and David Rees, mate of sloop 'Queen Charlotte' of port of Cardigan stated on oath that on 10/11 Mar. last they shipped at Liverpool 1,420 bushels of British salt on which duties paid by John Blackburn & Co., to carry it to Penzance on account of William carne. They sailed on 13 Mar. and on 15 Mar. ran into a storm and lost 49 bushels of salt: Collector of Excise to make allowance for duty paid.
