The position of College Visitor was filled by the Bishop of the Diocese (Coventry and Lichfield before the Reformation and Chester after the Reformation), who acted as a sort of auditor of the College's actions and finances, and as an adjudicator in cases of dispute. The College Visitor was only allowed to visit the College at the invitation of the Warden and Fellows, or once every five years.
