Description (What the record is about)
-
Survey volume EE4 is the fourth in the series of five 'EE' volumes, which covers the Ecclesiastical Corporations of the Royal Peculiar of Windsor, which were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners under mid nineteenth century parliamentary legislation. ; This volume covers the surveys carried out on behalf of the Ecclesiastical Commissioners by their appointed land agents, Messrs. Cluttons. The preferments in this volume concern the Windsor Chapter Estates, which were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners on the 29 September 1866 (effective date), which was published in the London Gazette on 28 June 1867 by Order in Council. ; These surveys were essential to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, as the survey reports gave a comprehensive way of clearly ascertaining the extent, condition and value of the preferments being commuted.; As preferments were transferred to the Ecclesiastical Commissioners from the Ecclesiastical Corporations, the various holdings of the estates were either kept or sold; the land agents supplied recommendatory advice on this matter with the survey reports.; The volume also has added annotations often regarding the disposal of property or land since the surveys were originally carried out and therefore incorporate later dates.; The geographical areas covered within the volume include: the county of Berkshire, parishes of Binfield, Cookham and Wantage; the county of Devonshire, parish of Ilsington, Ipplepen and Ottery St. Mary; the county of Dorset, parishes of Iwerne Minster and Hartgrove (otherwise Eat Orchard); the county of Wiltshire, parishes of Ogbourne St. Andrew, Ogbourne St. George and Great Bedwin; the county of Cornwall, parishes St. Germans, Tintagel and Ullingswick; the county of Surrey, parishes of Chertsey, Chiddingfold and Hambledon; the county of Buckinghamshire, parishes of Datchett, Dorney, Burnham, Long Credon and North Marston; the county of Oxfordshire, parish of Chalgrave; the county of Middlesex, parishes of Shepperton, Ruislip and Staines; and city of London St. Augustine.
