For copyhold land of Kingshold Manor,Hackney, including land and houses in Paragon Road, Jerusalem Passage and Gardens and Morning Lane.
Series begins with admission of Edward Bridgen to three copyhold messuages in Church Street on death of Rev John Bridgen (tenants given; also to one piece of manorial waste.(1). Bridgen leaves his Hackney estate to his nephew, Richard Crowther in 1787 (2); Crowther in turn devises six copyhold messuages etc in Hackney equally to his three children, Sarah, Bryan and Samuel Crowther (3) Richard inherits in 1788 (4); his children inherit their undivided moieties in 1789 (5-7); Bryan Crowther surrenders his share to Thomas Wright in 1799 (8-9). Wright's admission (10) changes the description to make the property share include (besides the 3 Church St houses) 2a of garden and orchard. In 1800 Wright surrendered to John Smith Graham (an infant) his share of a large brick and timber house in Jerusalem Square bounded by the fence of the Bowling Green, and also one third of that Bowling Green and one third of a house occupied by Mr Keeys (11). In 1812 Samuel Crowther, John Moodie and John Smith Graham are given licence to demise (12). Crowther et al then grant two leases, one to William Page, plumber of Church St of part of the former bowling green on the west side of Jerusalem Square and to Charles Buck in 1818 (bricklayer), which includes land from the north of Jerusalem Square up to Morning Lane (including the site of the later Buck's Buildings; plan on deed) (13-14). In 1820 Samuel Crowther's children, Henry, Ann, Sarah and Samuel are admitted to his share of the property (15-16), which now includes 5-6 Jerusalem Square, In 1872 Charles Cheston, John Hawerson builder of 5 Well St, William John Tully of 31 Christie Rd, builder lease to Henry John Payton Wright 9-12 Paragon Rd and associated land (newly built) (17). In 1873 Mrs Sarah Chawner is granted a licence to demise Providence Chapel, Paragon Road (18) and in the same year does so to Thomas Smith FReeman, Thomas Septimus Marks, Theodore JOnes and Alfred Bailey (19; plan on deed). In 1874 Mrs Chawner is granted a licence to demise and leases to William Littlefield Beane 1-9 Paragon Road, 1-10 Jerusalem Gardens north, 1-13 Jerusalem Gardens south and Jerusalem 1- Jerusalem Passage (20-21, plans on deeds). In 1890 Rev Samuel Bryan Crowther Beynon is admitted to the property on the death of Sarah Chawner (plan on deed showing property as in (20-21) and the northern portion as built by Page, Buck and John Berry) (22). Beynon died in 1912 and his widow, Mrs Gertrude Anne Barnardiston Crowther Beynon succeeeds (23, plan on deed, property has now contracted to stables and yard (shown on 20-21), Nos 14-20 Morning Lane 13-15 odd Paragon Rd and the Chapel; remainder taken for Valette Buildings by LCC or sold). (24) is an assignment of 27 Paragon Rd by Sydney Henry Robert Wright to George Sparrow in 1921;(25) is a further lease of Providence Chapel by Mrs C-Beynon to Wilfred M.Allin, Sydney Fisher, E.Hamilton Rice and W.H.Wagland in 1922. (26) is the settelement for compensation for enfranchisement legislation and(27) is a copy of the property register.
