In 1951 the 7534th American Air Base Squadron, under the control of the 3rd Air Force, was established at Chicksands.
At that time Chicksands was half RAF, half USAF controlled.
On 1 October 1978, control of the base was transferred to the United States Air Force in Europe and 774th Air Base Group assumed host base responsibility.
The inactivation ceremony took place on 25 April 1995 and RAF Chicksands closed its gates permanently on 30 September 1995
