A Thomas Gerrard, draper, is recorded at Castle Hill, Hindley in an 1869 directory but certainly by 1881 Thomas Gerrard was doing business at Market Place. The shop is shown on photograph no.94 on p.66 of the Record Office's publication 'Those Dark Satanic Mills' - it is the three-storeyed building to the left.
