Administrative / biographical background

The St. Peter's Lodge was named and established in 1776 and met at the Bunch of Grapes, King Street, St James's Square, London. In 1790 it met at the Bell, Upper Mount Street, Grosvenor Square, London. In 1793 the lodge united with the Lodge of Prudence, No. 69 of the Griffin, Half Moon Street, Piccadilly, London becoming the United Lodge of Prudence and Peter. The united lodge continued meeting at the Bell. In 1794 the lodge was renamed the Lodge of Prudence and Peter. In 1800 the Lodge of Prudence and Peter united with the Ionic Lodge No. 8, to become the United Lodge of Ionic and Prudence, which in turn united with the Alpha Lodge No. 43 in 1824 to become the Royal Alpha Lodge. The Royal Alpha Lodge No. 16 now meets at Freemasons' Hall, Great Queen Street, London.
